1) One-Piece Or Two-Piece?
One-piece toilets merge the bowl and tank into one complete unit, eliminating leakage between them hence it’s easier to clean. They are expensive but being fully assembled eliminates the need for professional repair.
Two-piece toilets comes with separate bowl and tank so you need to install them together. They are cheaper than the one-piece set but may be exposed to leakage between the bowl and tank after prolong use when the seal wears off which requires professional plumbing.
2) Flushing System
There are 2 types of flushing systems used in toilets namely pressure-assisted and gravity flush systems. Pressure-assisted toilet flush systems use pressurized air to force water from the tank into the bowl, giving a cleaner and thorough rinse with less chance of clogging. They are however noisy and may need frequent maintenance for optimal performance.
Gravity flush toilet systems use the weight of the water in the tank to provide the necessary flushing pressure but unfortunately the pressure may not be sufficient enough to provide a cleaner and thorough rinse with each flush, increasing the chance of clogging. They are however quieter and needs less maintenance.
3) Round Or Elongated?
This depends on your preference as there’s not much difference in using either of them. That said, round bowl toilet seats do save a bit of space since they are about 2" smaller than the elongated toilet seats.
4) Important Considerations
a) Larger trapways (snakelike tubing through which water flows) reduces the chance of clogging.
b) Larger flush valve increases rate of water flow from tank to bowl thereby giving powerful cleaning action.
